问:“达到欲界定,六根消亡,但置心一处也是在死亡的时刻能够有把握吧?”
Question: “Upon reaching the Samadhi in the realm of desire, the six sense bases dissolve. But if one places the mind on a single point, would that also allow one to maintain clarity at the moment of death?”
清凉月老师:对,因为什么呢?达到欲界定尤其是达到未到地定,比如说现在你就在病危中,马上拉去抢救,你也不要被别人干涉,就悄悄地悄悄地开始入定,那么很快地身体所有的感觉全部消失,心里是清清楚楚的,这时候别人在你身体上输液呀、扎针呐等等,对你来说没有任何地影响,它一定是到这种状态的。
Master Qingliangyue: Yes, that’s correct. Why is that? When one attains Samadhi in the realm of desire —especially what’s called the non-arrival ground samadhi—for example, suppose you're in critical condition and about to be rushed to emergency care. Even then, if you quietly and subtly enter meditation without letting others interfere, very quickly all sensations from the body will disappear, while the mind remains crystal clear. At this point, no matter what others are doing to your body—giving you IV fluids, injections, or anything else—it has no effect on you. You truly reach a state where these things don’t register at all.
如果这时候你没达到这种状态,一般的欲界定它是静定,没达到这种状态,你还在感觉这个身体的,那么欲界定它退失下来感觉这个身体,这时候你感觉别人碰你的身体它是非常疼痛,因为这时候感觉是很灵敏的,它并不是真正的定中的。那么到未到地定的时候就完全没这回事,随便他怎么摆布你的身体,这个身体与你没有任何关系,它就像在路边的石头一样,路边的石头与你没有任何关系,那么在这个地方身体和石头一样的,没任何关系的,哪怕他现在给你截肢毫无意义,根本就不会影响你。所以你就能够专心一处,这个时候你就专心一处这是完全有把握的。
However, if you haven’t reached this state, and are only in a general level of Samadhi in the realm of desire, it is still a form of tranquil absorption, but the sensations of the body remain. In such cases, if someone touches your body, you may feel sharp pain, because the senses are still very active and sensitive—it’s not true deep absorption. Once you reach non-arrival ground samadhi, though, none of that matters anymore. No matter how people handle your body, it has nothing to do with you. Your body is like a rock by the roadside—completely unrelated to you. Even if they were to amputate a limb, it would be meaningless and wouldn’t affect you at all. So at that moment, if you concentrate your mind on a single point, you can do so with full confidence.
所以这个就在于你平时真正到达未到地定那个地方的时候这些问题就全部解决,它根本就不会有这些问题,它一下子就知道这个究竟是怎么回事,所以这个一定要持续地去练。咱们绝大多数人现在就到了这个转的界面,稍稍再向前进一步就能够进入未到地定,就能够把身体的生死解决,还不是心的这种变异生死,它是身体的生死。身体的生死解决是很容易的,你想自主生死,那个是很容易达到的,所以一定要精进的去实证。
Therefore, if in daily practice you truly reach non-arrival ground samadhi, these issues are all resolved. They simply don’t arise anymore. At that level, you immediately understand what’s really going on. So it's essential to keep practicing diligently. Most of us are already at a transitional threshold. Just one small step further, and you can enter non-arrival ground samadhi, which allows you to resolve the birth and death of the physical body—not yet the transformations of the mind, but at least the bodily aspect. Resolving the birth and death of the body is relatively easy. If you want to gain mastery over life and death, that’s not far off—it's attainable. That’s why it’s so important to strive toward actual realization with diligence.
